Had a tree surgeon come by yesterday to look at the large oak in my backyard. He spent about an hour walking around it, tapping the bark with a mallet, and peering up at the branches. Told me it's got some dieback and maybe a fungus near the root flare. He'll write up a full assessment report soon, but his initial take is that we might need to take it down before next storm season.
